Rooster
by Ronnie

Last saturday night on rooster
I lost 4 one dollar bills
came home with my champion cock cut all to
home made shine made my vision blur
and I carelessly tied up a pair of
saturday night on rooster hill

I Cortez up off the ground
was floppin' he wasn't makin' a sound
left leg was missing and he was breathin'
I dropped him in paper sack
and told old Charlie I'd be coming
next saturday night on rooster

so I Cortez home and laid him in his cage
he was up and in a couple of days
round and crowing loud revenge
I feed him the rest of the week
he'd just rip it apart with his angry
got to snapin' the cage wired like a of pliers

look out is coming back
and he wont be in no sack
healed and he's fired up
for hill

well saturday night around again
and i tucked cortez his portable pin
and we on up to check out the secluded hill
when we the bones was already rollin
and you could hear Charlie's big bad a crowing
and sure it's saturday night on rooster hill

we scaled them up and was light
and I that's alright let old one leg fight
and Charlie gave three to one odds one his big bad
we them off and Cortez knew
he was looking at the bird that spurred and chewed him away last week
on rooster

we set 'em down to let 'em
and it took all I had to Cortez back
he dug a hole deep enough to the big gray
look at me and said a grand to five
I Charlie you're on let them feathers fly
saturday night
on rooster

look out cortez is coming
and he wont be in no paper
he's healed and he's up
for rooster

Earl gives a count and pit
and cortez flies up to one fatale hit
and Charlie his big bad gray in the gully
he slowly peels off ten big
and I say Charlie old buddy I how it feels
this aint my first trip to hill

sunday morning back here on the farm
things are except around the barn
sunrise and I'm cookin' Cortez a t-bone
all the bars are closed and the action
is my champion crowing satisfaction
and me a my take...
on hill
